Chapter Eleven

They entered the Metro airport at around 10:00 A.M. When they arrived, they saw a tall, lean man holding a sign with their names on it. They approached the man, who escorted them to a stretch Hummer.

They stepped inside, where they were greeted by Lance. Anari looked at the sexy man at the other end of the Hummer. He looked a lot better than he did when he was hanging out with Maurice.

“Sorry to hear about Li’l Maurice. I was in jail during the funeral and I couldn’t make it. It’s nice to see you, though.”

Anari nodded her head and said, “It’s nice to see you, too, Lance.”

Tanya and Lance exchanged glances but didn’t say anything to each other. Instead, Lance concentrated on another subject.

“I know y’all ain’t come this far to party and bullshit,” Lance said. “What y’all need, some money? Y’all know I’ll take care of y’all.”

Anari grinned and paused for a moment. She looked at Tanya and noticed that she was fidgeting in her seat.

“I need to meet Poe,” said Anari.

Lance looked at Anari suspiciously and answered, “Poe? What you know about Poe?”

Anari, having total control of the situation, said, “I know that he was Maurice’s connect and I need to find him. Can you help me, yes or no?”

Lance was reluctant to make the arrangements for her to meet Poe, but he couldn’t tell her no. Maurice was the cause of his success now. If his main girl needed this, then Lance had to give it to her. “We’ll discuss that later. Let’s catch up on old times.”

They went to Lance’s condo. He offered them a place to stay while they were visiting Detroit. This was one of his many places. Lance was a smart man. He wasn’t too flashy. His condo was nice, but it wasn’t out of a working man’s reach. They accepted his offer and made plans to meet later on that evening for dinner.

Anari and Tanya settled into the condo. Anari looked at Tanya and could sense there was something wrong with her.

“What’s wrong?” she asked, not wanting to pressure Tanya into doing anything.

Tanya shook her head. “I just hope you know what you’re doing. I mean, I don’t know anything about the game, and I just want to be sure that you know what’s going on. I hope you do, Anari. That’s all I’m gon’ say.”

Anari hoped so too. She knew she was getting herself into some shit, but she was determined to do it anyway. The life of her son was worth it.

She looked at Tanya. “I do,” she said resolutely.

Later that evening, they joined Lance at a popular restaurant called Fishbones. Two young men accompanied him. Anari thought they looked barely older than eighteen as she looked at the two young faces in front of her. The boys were identical twins with bald heads and muscular physiques. Their thuggish look appealed to her.

They all sat down, and Lance introduced the two boys to Anari and Tanya. “Biggs and Frank, this is—”

Anari cut Lance off mid-sentence and reached out her hand.
